Is hidden mould damaging your sleep?

News·Katie Cortes·Jun 11, 2025· 1 minute
Did you know that mould exposure could be disrupting your family's sleep?
Some indoor moulds are a common cause of allergic rhinitis, which can lead to insomnia, restless sleep, snoring and even sleep apnea!
Of course it can also cause a host of other health complaints, but common reactions may include:

• Skin rash
• Itchy, red eyes
• Sneezing
• Nasal congestion
• Chronic cough
• Blurred vision

A new house or absence of visible mould does not necessarily mean you don't have any. Warning signs to look out for are:
• Humid or damp wardrobes
• Condensation on windows
• Cracking paint, or other signs of water damage
• or an unusual, musty smell

Mould exposure can make people seriously unwell and it is thought that children exposed to mould in the first year of life may have an increased risk of developing asthma.
If you suspect that hidden mould is growing in yours or your child's bedroom, a building biologist will be able to perform a thorough investigation of your home.
